Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Multifunctional Photocopier?

A Multifunctional Photocopier is a copier based product that provides an array of useful functions. Sometimes abbreviated to MFD for Multifunctional Device or MFP for Multifunctional Printer.

Benefits of choosing an MFD/MFP

If you have separate devices for each office function, e.g. a scanner for scanning, a printer for printing and a fax machine for faxing, it may be more beneficial to have an all in one device, or MFD/MFP.

By using a multifunctional device, you will use less floor/desk space and you will not have separate consumable expenses for each device, so your costs will be reduced as well.

Features of Multifunctional Photocopiers

The majority of MFD's or MFP's combine the following functions:

Photocopying

Network Printing

Scanning

Faxing

Colour Copying & Printing

What size photocopier do I need?

The size of photocopier required depends upon how many copies are going to be made per month and what the device is going to be used for. The number of copies that are made per month determines the speed of the device, which is measured in pages per minute (PPM). It also needs to be considered what functions the device needs to be capable of. Many multifunctional devices can print, fax and scan as well as copy and if all these functions are needed then a higher print speed may be needed.

What finishing options are available?

There are many different finishing options available for the multifunctional devices listed on the website. These include sorting, stapling, saddle stitching, hole punching, booklet making and more. The finishing options available vary between each model and some options require a dedicated finisher.

What is an ADF?

An ADF is the automatic document feeder that sits on top of the photocopier or multifunctional device. It allows the user to copy a single or multi-page document without having to place each copy onto the platen glass manually. In some devices these units are referred to as a DADF which stands for Duplex automatic document feeder. DADF's are capable of turning the document over so that both sides of a double-sided document can be scanned.

What is duplex printing and why is it important?

Duplex printing means that the photocopier, printer or multifunctional device has a function for double sided printing, which can be set as standard on many devices. This is a useful function when trying to reduce costs and paper consumption as setting the device to duplex printing has been shown to reduce paper consumption by up to 40 percent.
